Healthy snacks for kids, yikes!

I understand how hard it is to find quick & easy snacks to offer that still have some nutrients. Here's an idea that you can make ahead of time (So basically if you plan ahead when you have a whiner it will be quick & easy because it will be ready).

My friend Cindy gave me this recipe and it doesn't disappoint. Sprinkle it on some yogurt!
granola

2 ½ cups uncooked oats
½ cup firmly packed brown sugar
½ cup sunflower seeds or chopped nuts
1/3 cup honey
1/3 cup melted butter
¼ cup unprocessed bran or wheat germ
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
½ cup raisins, chopped dried apricots or chopped dates (optional)

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Mix the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Mix the wet ingredients in another bowl. Mix the wet and the dry mixtures together. If you’re using the dried fruit, don’t add it until after you bake the granola. Pour the granola into a greased 9” x 13” baking pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in dried fruit, if using. Spread mixture onto an ungreased cookie sheet; cool. Break it apart with your hands. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. It’s good in a bowl with some milk, too!
