Snack

This is my recipe for snacks: put fruit in bowl. Leave where kids can reach.

Variation: put nuts in jar. Leave where kids can reach. (coffee grinder is for mom's "snack")

But seriously, it's tough to come up with good nutritious and appetizing after-school snacks. Sometimes we do quesadillas, cereal, apples and peanut butter, crackers and cheese, bagel pizzas... I would love to hear other ideas!

  1. I used to love "ants on a log" (celergy with peanut butter and raisins). Do the kids like hummus? Pretty much anything with hummus is good. As a healthy alternative to chips and salsa, I really enjoy celery and salsa (the celery works well for scooping up the salsa, that's why I picked that veggie). Another idea is frozen grapes (although, not everyone likes these). I think it makes the grapes taste a bit sweeter.

  2. yeah, fruit is pretty much our staple snack. my kids are all obsessed with yogurt with granola and fruit. they also like eating granola just plain. they do love hummus and basically anything that involves "dipping" (especially finn). another usual at our house are smoothies, especially this time of year...
frozen grapes are a great suggestion... these were always my favorite as a kid. i think i will go throw some in the freezer right now.
